Master Thesis Study — “Data Literacy from the Bottom-Up: Investigating Data Practices in the Civic Tech Sector”
Call for Participants!
I am looking for several participants aged 18–64 who have been involved in the development of civic technologies centered around data (e. g. dashboards, apps, databases). This study seeks to investigate the understandings and practices of data literacy in the civic sector. Information from this study will be used solely for the purpose of completing a master’s thesis on behalf of the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California.
Participants will be asked to take part in a 45-to-60-minute interview addressing the design, implementation, use, and/or maintenance of data technologies by civic technologists and the communities they serve. These one-on-one interviews will be conducted remotely via Zoom, Google Meet, Skype, or any other audio-visual communication platform. Phone interviews are also an option. The interviewing period will last until May 1st, 2021. Please feel free to contact me at aa00671@usc.edu to share an information sheet with additional details about the study and a consent form.
If you, or anyone you know, fits these criteria and may be interested in participating, please reach out via email or phone. I am more than happy to answer any further questions.
Your time is greatly appreciated,
Alejandro Alvarado Rojas
